Replacement vs fresh installation
From 5kW up, a split system generally needs its own dedicated electrical circuit back to the switchboard. That single difference is why the larger systems on this page show two prices.
- Replacement
You already have a system of a similar size in that spot, so the dedicated circuit, isolator and often the wall penetration are already there. We remove and responsibly dispose of the old unit and reuse the existing infrastructure where it is compliant and in good condition.
- Fresh installation
The room has never had air conditioning, so a licensed electrician runs a new dedicated circuit from your switchboard to the unit and fits the isolator. That extra cable, labour and testing is the difference between the two figures.
Smaller 2.5kW to 4.2kW systems are not split into two prices because they typically run on a standard circuit. Every figure on this page and the two brand pages includes GST and reflects a standard back-to-back low-set installation. They are starting prices — your final fixed quote reflects your actual site.
- Supply, install and commission
Indoor head and outdoor condenser, standard mounting hardware, standard pipe and drain run, electrical connection, full commissioning and a handover so you know how to run the system efficiently.
- Manufacturer warranty
5 years on Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-AP systems, 6 years on Gree Alto systems, registered on your behalf at handover.
- 5 year Hart Air warranty
We warrant all other supplied parts and our workmanship for 5 years. Licensed, insured and ARCtick certified — one local team accountable for the whole job.
Costs that sit outside a standard installation — extra copper beyond the standard run, two-storey access or scaffolding, custom condenser brackets or slabs, switchboard upgrades, and any electrical rectification — are quoted separately and always agreed in writing before we start.
Getting the capacity right
Size is the single biggest driver of price, so it pays to get it right rather than simply buying the cheapest unit. In Brisbane's humid subtropical climate, an undersized system runs flat out, struggles to dehumidify and wears out early, while an oversized system short-cycles and leaves the room clammy.
As a rough starting point, a 2.5kW to 3.5kW system suits a standard bedroom or study, 4.2kW to 5kW suits a large bedroom or small living area, 6kW to 7kW suits most open-plan living and dining spaces, and 8kW suits large or west-facing open-plan areas. We confirm the right size with a proper load calculation that accounts for glazing, orientation, insulation and ceiling height.
